Nottoway Plantation was built by John Hampden Randolph, a wealthy sugar planter, and designed by architect Henry Howard. The Greek Revival and Italianate structure includes a massive rear wing, a prominent cupola, and extensive gardens. It survived the Civil War and remains one of the most intact antebellum estates in the South.
Visiting and Preservation
Today, Nottoway Plantation operates as a historic house museum and event venue. Visitors can tour the preserved interiors, learn about the lives of the Randolph family and enslaved workers, and view original furnishings. The property is managed by the Nottoway Plantation Foundation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
